As we begin a new school year, we would like to stress the importance of our uniform expectations. At St Benet’s, we pride ourselves on how smart and well-presented our children are; therefore, we would like to recap our uniform policy and expectations for uniform in 2025/2026. There are a few points to note which are highlighted in bold.
We recognise at this point in the school year, families will have already bought uniform which may not adhere to the expectations, however we would encourage that moving forward that when items of uniform are replaced, they are in line with the expectations listed below to ensure our children are smart and well presented at all times.
School Uniform
Pupils will be expected to wear the following school uniform:
- Light blue buttoned school polo (school logo branded or plain)
- Royal blue school jumper or cardigan (school logo branded or plain)
- Grey, black or navy trousers or shorts /navy knee-length flared skirt or pinafore (no tube skirts or short skirts). Blue checked summer dresses can also be worn in warmer weather
- Grey, black or navy plain socks or navy/grey tights
- Black school shoes or black trainers
PE Kit
The following are required for PE: a yellow plain or school logo branded t-shirt, plain navy shorts/leggings or joggers (no branded items) and suitable trainers. Outdoor trainers should provide support for pupils when exercising; therefore, trainers such as Converse would not be appropriate. PE trainers need to be separate from daily school wear.
If your child requires different PE clothing, for particular sporting events, parents will be notified. Children with hair long enough to tie back should ensure this is tied back at all times.
If children are unable to take part in PE lessons, a note is required from a parent/guardian as our children are legally expected to partake in two hours of PE each week. Non-participation work will be issued to those children deemed unable to take part in PE lessons.
Children will be required to come to school wearing their PE kit on the days they have PE:

Swimming Kit
Children undertaking swimming lessons are required to wear an appropriate swimming costume (two-piece swimwear and long swimming shorts are not permitted). All children are required to wear a swimming cap during lessons. Swimming is a statutory requirement; therefore, parents of children unable to swim, due to medical reasons, should provide the school office with a doctor’s note.
Jewellery
Watches are the only item of jewellery which may be worn at school; however, they must be removed before P.E. and swimming lessons. Smart watches are not permitted in school. Teachers are not to assist children with the removal of jewellery. If children cannot remove it themselves, it should be removed at home on the days the child does PE.
Children are not permitted to wear any earrings. Any ear piercings should be done within the summer holidays to ensure that earrings can be removed before pupils are in back school. If for any reason your child cannot have their ear-rings removed, clear plastic spacers should be used. Any child with ear piercings will be asked to remove the earrings if worn in school. As earrings can become entangled in hair and equipment, we have a strict policy of no earrings in school to prevent any accidents occurring. Children will not be permitted to tape their ears to cover the earrings.
Other areas to note:
- No nail extensions or painted nails
- No make-up or false tan
- No extreme hair-cuts (including ticks in shorter hair)
- No hair dye
- Hair which is long enough to be tied back, should be tied back fully at all times
Purchasing Uniform
Our school uniform provider is Total Sport, in Hendon. Parents have the option to purchase uniform with the school logo; however, plain alternatives from other stores are equally accepted. If required, we have a wide range of good-quality pre-loved school uniform and PE kit available at Fulwell library. Please contact the school if you need any further support or have questions surrounding uniform for next year.
We appreciate that this may sound formal; however, we have very high expectations of our pupils and this is always recognised by visitors to the school. We strive to continue to ensure the highest standards of presentation and behaviour of our pupils and appreciate your support in ensuring they come to school ready for their studies.
Thank you for your continued support in this and we look forward to working with you over the coming school year.
